Outdoor Learning Week
It is Outdoor Learning Week (Monday 21st – Friday 25th May). All Iveson pupils will be engaged in a full programme of learning taking place within the school grounds. During the week, pupils will need to have spare clothes ready to change into depending on the activity planned. All pupils are to come to school in full uniform and bring with them a bag with spare (old) clothes and their PE kit. Please also remember a raincoat if it looks cloudy and a hat/sun-cream if the sun is out. We plan to be outside whatever the weather. The bag of spare clothes can stay in school all week.
Outdoor Learning Week
As we are now in the KS1 testing period, parents of pupils in Year 2 might be interested in accessing an information leaflet or short video, produced by the Standards and Testing Agency (STA). Both provide information about the purpose of the tests, how parents can best support their children and how results will be reported.

Sport Relief 2018

Public Consultation Event
You are invited to drop in at any time between 3.00pm and 7.00pm on Tuesday 27 March 2018 at Iveson Primary School, Iveson Rise, Leeds LS16 6LW. Easter Bonnet Parade
Thursday 8th March
UPDATE SCHOOL CLOSED – Unfortunately, we have been forced to close school today due to the severe weather conditions. We are unable to get enough staff to school safely. If your child is already at school, we have some staff there but those children will now need to be collected. Please accept out apologies for the short notice and thank you for your understanding.

World Book Day

Year 5 Oliver Production

The Oliver Production Year 5 trip is on Tuesday 6th March 2018. Please arrive at the earlier time of 8.30 am. This is a free trip however does require parental consent (given via the link on the trip letter).
Yesterday, we had our first home game. We played against a team who are unbeaten in the league (better than Man City). In the first half, we fought hard even scoring a goal although this was disallowed. The first half ended 0-0 which was a fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, our opponent scored early in the second half which was disheartening (maybe we could do with half time oranges next time). The match ended 0-3 while this wasn’t the result we would have hoped for the boys did Iveson proud in their first ever home game. Miss Walker & Mr Rasul.

Packed Lunch Advice
Clarification: At this moment we are a Nut Free School as we have pupils with severe nut allergies. The advice in the letter is general advice and no nuts or nut products must be sent to our school. If the situation changes regarding nuts, parents will be informed. Many thanks.

We are now into the final week of campaigning for the Children’s Lord Mayor and this year both Adel and Cookridge Holy Trinity have candidates in the final 12 and they need you votes!

Secondary School Applications
All new year 6 children should receive a letter over the summer on how/when to apply for High School. To apply online you must complete the application form between 1 August and 31 October 2017.
You must submit an application even if you would like a place at your priority catchment school or your child has a sibling in school.

Secret Garden Launch / Opening & Picnic for Children, Parents & Staff
Our launch day is Friday 16th June and parents can arrive from 11:45am. The official opening is at 12:00pm and the picnic will be to follow.
We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
Please be aware that we need all sandwich orders in by Friday 26th May. If your child has a school meal usually and we do not get their choice they will be automatically ordered a cheese sandwich for the day, so to avoid any disappointment please return the slip.
Parents are also very much welcome even if you do not wish to join in the picnic.

A message from the Sufficiency & Participation Team at Leeds City Council:
A consultation is now live asking the city to comment on site options for the proposed Roundhay Park Primary free school. A free school bid from the Roundhay Park Primary School Trust has been approved by the Secretary of State for Education to provide additional school places in the Roundhay area. There are four sites which have the greatest potential to host the school; however there are issues with each of them. One of these sites is on a part of Roundhay Park so Leeds City Council feels it is right that the whole city has a say on whether it should be further considered for this purpose. To help us achieve this we would be grateful if you could share this message with your school community this week via your school website. Tour de Yorkshire Special Menu Themed Day

Milk Summer Term Letter
Please see attached our Summer Term milk letter. For your child to have milk after the Easter break we need this returning to the school office with payment or if you qualify for FSM, free school meals (Not to be confused with universal meals) we still need the slip to say you would like your child to have milk. Cut off date is Wednesday 29th March, any slips received after this will miss the milk order and your child will not receive milk until the next academic year.

Thank you to all who came to our Book Fair. We raised a huge £504 for books for school. Thanks to all the staff for promoting this and to our families and children for supporting it.

Money Raised for Charity
Attached is the certificate we received due to the high amount of photographs that were purchased from Braiswick Photography. They have contributed £38.00 which we will be sending to Cancer Research UK. Thank you for photo purchases to allow for us to have generated this amount for such a worthy cause.
Here are some of the children who performed in the EYFS & KS1 Christmas Production last week. Well done to all who took part, children and staff. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into these performances and it most certainly paid off.

Thank you very much to all who have brought in donations for our Harvest Table. What a difference from when we started on Monday, this will go towards supporting our local food banks.

Iveson Spooky Disco
Thursday 20th October
We are holding a spooky themed disco for the children.
EYFS & KS1
Tickets cost £2 per child and include entry and a drink. These are available from the school office up to Tuesday 18th October. There will be a tuck shop open at each of the discos if they wish to buy sweets.
During each of the discos there will be fun games, dance competitions and chances for the children to win prizes. We will also be looking for our most spooky fancy dress at each of the events too.
Easter Superstars at Iveson Primary
On Thursday 25th March we celebrated Easter with a fantastic Easter Bonnet competition. All the school joined in making Easter Bonnets as part of a homework project over the half term. The day started with an Assembly where all the children wore their bonnets and discovered a bit more about this tradition.
They discovered it was customary to have new clothes at Easter to celebrate new beginnings and the onset of Spring. The idea of an Easter Bonnet Parade was made popular in New York when the ladies would dress up in their finery and parade around Central Park.
Each class had voted for the best two bonnets in their class so these children paraded their designs with the lucky winners receiving an Easter Egg each; each class then voted on the overall winner who received a box of Easter treats.
The children were all very proud of their creative efforts and so the whole school embarked on a parade around the local area to show off their super Easter designs.
Thanks to all our volunteers who joined us to make it a special event for all our children.
