Headteacher Update & Google Classroom

Good Afternoon All,

I hope you and your families are all well and enjoying the sunshine albeit at a social distance!
We just wanted to send a quick update following on from yesterday. Mrs Collinson has been busy addressing all the packs for children who did not receive them before we were asked to deliver reduced provision and they will be sent out in the post tonight.
We have set up Google Classroom for children in Keystage Two and you will find the instructions on how to do this attached. Teachers will post work for their year group and the children will be able to communicate with the teachers. We will continue to post work for Early Years and Key Stage One on to the blog and will add links to useful sites to further support you. We have tried to ensure that the work we set helps to consolidate learning and can be done independently or as a family challenge.
We are currently discussing with Leeds Catering how best to address free school meals as we appreciate trying to get to school to pick this up is not practical, we were able to deliver school lunch parcels out – a huge thank you to Mrs Sykes, Miss Fletcher, Mr Wilson and Mr Fuller for delivering these and to Mrs Harrison for putting the packs together. We are hoping to move to a food voucher system very soon and will continue to keep you updated with regard to this.
We appreciate these are strange times for all of us so if any of you need any help please phone school and we will do our best to support you or if applicable signpost you to agencies that can help.
Please say hello to the children from all of us, school is a very strange place without them! We continue to provide care for children of Key Workers so should you meet this criteria and need a place please let us know as we appreciate some of you may be re-drafted back in to these roles.
Hayley Marshall

Important Message

This is a reminder that we are a nut free school. Pupils must not bring any types of nuts or sesame seeds to school at any time. Please check food labels carefully as you prepare your child’s lunch boxes. If the packaging states that a product may contain nuts then it must not be sent to school.

We have a number of pupils across all areas of the school with severe allergies to nuts and the only way to ensure their continued safety in school is to ensure that there are no nuts in the building at any time.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Match Report

Yesterday, we had our first home game. We played against a team who are unbeaten in the league (better than Man City). In the first half, we fought hard even scoring a goal although this was disallowed. The first half ended 0-0 which was a fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, our opponent scored early in the second half which was disheartening (maybe we could do with half time oranges next time). The match ended 0-3 while this wasn’t the result we would have hoped for the boys did Iveson proud in their first ever home game. Miss Walker & Mr Rasul.

A message from the Sufficiency & Participation Team at Leeds City Council:

A consultation is now live asking the city to comment on site options for the proposed Roundhay Park Primary free school. A free school bid from the Roundhay Park Primary School Trust has been approved by the Secretary of State for Education to provide additional school places in the Roundhay area. There are four sites which have the greatest potential to host the school; however there are issues with each of them. One of these sites is on a part of Roundhay Park so Leeds City Council feels it is right that the whole city has a say on whether it should be further considered for this purpose. To help us achieve this we would be grateful if you could share this message with your school community this week via your school website. Here is a link to more information about the consultation, including details about how to submit comments by 28 April.

Easter Superstars at Iveson Primary

On Thursday 25th March we celebrated Easter with a fantastic Easter Bonnet competition. All the school joined in making Easter Bonnets as part of a homework project over the half term. The day started with an Assembly where all the children wore their bonnets and discovered a bit more about this tradition.

They discovered it was customary to have new clothes at Easter to celebrate new beginnings and the onset of Spring. The idea of an Easter Bonnet Parade was made popular in New York when the ladies would dress up in their finery and parade around Central Park.

Each class had voted for the best two bonnets in their class so these children paraded their designs with the lucky winners receiving an Easter Egg each; each class then voted on the overall winner who received a box of Easter treats.

The children were all very proud of their creative efforts and so the whole school embarked on a parade around the local area to show off their super Easter designs.

Thanks to all our volunteers who joined us to make it a special event for all our children.

Please be aware that we are having a delayed start to the school day of 10am to allow all our families and staff to arrive safely.
